Artist Statement – Al-Marmah, Qena, Egypt
This project documents Al-Marmah in Qena, Upper Egypt, a traditional gathering where horsemanship, community, and cultural heritage come together.
Through my photographs, I focus on the relationship between the horsemen, their horses, and the surrounding community, capturing the movement, dust, light, expressions, and spontaneous moments that reflect the energy of the event.
Al-Marmah represents a living part of Upper Egyptian heritage, bringing generations together and reflecting a strong sense of identity, pride, and connection to place. Through this series, I aim to preserve these authentic moments and highlight the human stories behind this tradition.
