Nneka Jackson-Akhigbe

Exhibiting Artist

Nigeria

Nneka Jackson-Akhigbe is a photographer and visual artist whose practice explores labour, migration, urban life and systems of movement within contemporary African spaces. Working through research-led, project-based photography, she uses staged and observational image-making to examine how people, objects, markets, transport routes and informal economies shape collective identity and social memory.

Her work is rooted in long-form photographic series, where each image becomes part of a wider constructed narrative. Through colour, gesture, architecture and public space, Jackson-Akhigbe studies the ways communities adapt, survive and create meaning within rapidly changing cities. Her images often focus on everyday workers, traders, commuters and urban environments, presenting them not as ordinary scenes, but as visual evidence of resilience, exchange and transformation.

Responding to themes of convergence, her practice considers how culture, movement, labour and memory intersect to form the future image of African urban life. Her work invites viewers to look closely at the intelligence of everyday systems and the human stories embedded within them.
