Karen Kouame
Côte d’Ivoire
Karen Kouame is a 28-year-old multidisciplinary Ivorian artist based in Toulouse, France. After academic studies in Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, and France, where she specialized in Accounting, Economics, and Digital Marketing, she chose in 2023 to fully dedicate herself to photography by joining ETPA Photography School in Toulouse for a three-year professional program.
Introduced to image-making by her father at an early age, she developed a strong sensitivity to visual storytelling. Rooted in her cultural heritage, her work explores themes of transmission, cultural identity, memory, and resilience within African traditions.
Through an authentic and thoughtful photographic practice, Karen Kouame’s artistic approach is fundamentally an act of valorization: bringing visibility to what endures, what resists, and what continues to shine, rather than focusing solely on what has been lost or erased. Her work engages with questions of memory, intergenerational transmission, and cultural continuity, creating visual narratives that bridge past and present.
