BOUNDARIES OF REASON
October 26 – 30, 2021
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Much of today’s communication is pre-emptively limited by expectations that privilege individual absoluteness via carefully curated public personas.
This environment upholds strong convictions in settings where talking loud and saying nothing happens at 5-G speed, filtered through selfie angles and in-home professional lighting systems.
Patience and humility are notably absent.
While medical professionals’ research the physiology of social media addiction and the body’s response to “likes,” the prominent contemporary discourse is held within the guidelines of popularity rather than in spaces of authentic dialogue.
In fact, for many the boundaries of reason rarely expand beyond the borders of a 13” laptop screen or the face of a smartphone.
The 5th Edition of the Abuja Photo Festival seeks works that question dominant communication practices and reflect ways of engaging that are quick to hear and open-minded.
Selected images should contribute to larger conversations about social justice, shine light on otherwise hidden perspectives and offer suggestions for expanding the collective Boundaries of Reason.
All submissions must meet the following criteria for consideration:
▪ Artists must present works addressing the theme of the exhibition.
▪ Images of submitted works must be sent as attachments – social media links will not be considered.
▪ Submissions must include an artist statement, CV, and biography.
Abuja Photo Festival is open to all Nigerian photographers.
Female, Abuja-based and Northern Nigeria-based artists are strongly encouraged to submit.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, September 27, 2021
